Review — Klondike Solotaire

Today, I will introduce about a popular Solotaire game, Klondike.

To win the Klondike Solotaire, we need to move cards carefully. If we just make movement without thinking, and draw cards from the draw pile unefficiently, it will be difficult to win the game.

• Setup

The game can be played with one card deck without jokers by one player only. After shuffling the deck, we set the the cards like the image below.

• Rule

To win the Klondike Solitaire, player move all cards to the four foundation. Each foundation can hold one suit, and player must put the cards in the sequence of Ace to King. Player must put all cards to each foundation to win the game.

On the tableau, cards are played in descending order and alternative colors only.

Below is an example of a game I played.

• Session Report (Long)

First setup was like the image above.

Moved J and Q to the 7th column. 2 diamond appears from 6th column.

Moved KQJ to 1st column. 6 spade appears on 7th column.
Moved 5 diamond to 7th column. 8 clover appears.

Couldn’t make movement, so I draw three cards from the draw pile.

Found two Aces, I put them on foundation.
I still cannot move cards on tableau, so draw three cards from the draw pile.

Moved 3 spade and 2 diamond to 2nd column. 10 heart appears on 6th col.

Moved 10 heart to 1st col, 7 diamond appears on 6th col.
Moved 7 diamond to 3rd col, 4 clover appears on 6th col.
Moved 4 clover to 7th col, K spade appears on 6th col.

Moved 654 from 7th col to 3rd col, Q spade appears.
Moved Moved 8–4 from 3rd col to 5th col, 4 spade appears
couldn’t move cards on tableau, draw cards from draw pile.

Found J, 2, 3 hearts and 10 clover.
Moved 2, 3 hearts to foundation and J heart and 10 clover to 7th col.

Moved 9–4 from 5th col to 7th col, 7 heart appears on 5th col.
cannot make anymore movement, draw cards from draw pile.
found A clover, A diamond, 2 spade, and 2 diamond. Moved them to foundation.

Moved 3 spade (2nd col), 4 spade (3rd col) to foundation.
cannot make movement, draw cards from draw pile.
found Q heart, 2 spade. Moved Q heart to 6th col.

Moved 2 spade to foundation.
Draw more cards from draw pile.
Found K diamonds, moved it to 3rd col.
moved Q-4 (7th col) under the K diamond.

Moved 8 spade(draw pile) and 7 heart(5th col) to 7th col, 4 heart appears on 5th col.
Moved the 4 heart to foundation, 10 diamond appears.
Cannot move cards on tableau, draw cards from draw pile.

Found 3 diamond (draw pile), moved it to foundation.
Moved 4 diamond (2nd col) to foundation, 7 spade appears (2nd col).

Moved 6 heart (4th col) to 2nd col, 5 clover appears (4th col).
Moved 5 clover (4th col) to 2nd col, 8 heart appears (4th col).
Draw cards from draw pile, 9 clover appears.
Moved the 9 clover (draw pile) and the 8 heart (4th col) to 5th col, 5 spade appears(4th col)

Moved 5 spade(4th col) to foundation.
Moved 7–5 (2nd col) to 5th col.
Draw cards from draw pile, found 6 clover and K heart.
Moved the 6 clover to 7th col.

Moved K heart to 2nd col.
Draw cards from draw pile, found 3 clover.
Moved 3 clover to foundation.

Moved 4(3rd col), 5(5th col), 6(7th col) clovers to foundation.
Moved 5 diamond(3rd col), 6 spade(3rd col) to foundation.

Draw cards from draw pile, found Q clover and 6 diamond.
Moved Q clover to 2nd col.
Moved 6 diamond to foundation.

Cannot move cards on tableau. Draw cards from draw pile.
Found J diamond, 10 spade and 7 Clover.
Moved J diamond and 10 spade to 2nd col.
Moved 7 clover to foundation.

Draw cards from draw pile. Found 10 spade.
Moved the 10 spade to 2nd col.
Moved 9–7 to 2nd col, 8 diamond appears(7th col).

Moved 9–7 (3rd col) and 8 diamond(7th col) to foundation.
5 heart (7th col) appears.

Moved 5 heart(7th col) to foundation, J spade appears.
Moved J spade to 6th col.
Moved 10–6 (5th col) to 6th col, 9 spade appears.

At this point, I am done sorting the cards on tableau.
Move every cards to foundation in order.

Won the game!!
